Concussion Policy

It is imperative that coaches are educated about the nature and treatment of sports-related concussions and other head injuries. Allowing an athlete to return to play before recovering from a concussion increases the chance of a more serious brain injury. Any athlete who exhibits signs and symptoms of a head injury shall be immediately removed from play and may not return to play unless they are cleared in writing by a physician. The medical clearance must state that the athlete can return to full contact sports with no restrictions. Emergency medical assistance shall be contacted when symptoms get worse, or if there is a loss of consciousness or direct neck pain. The coach shall contact the parent and inform them of the suspected head injury. An injury report shall be complete and reviewed by the Director. This policy shall be reviewed annually and approved by the Board to ensure it reflects the most current information on prevention, risk and treatment of sports-related concussions.
